Joni Mitchell Reveals ‘The Asylum Albums’ Box Set

The vinyl set covers Mitchell's 1976-1980 period of releases, featuring 'Hejira', 'Mingus' and more

Four of Joni Mitchell’s classic albums have been newly remastered for a vinyl box set covering her 1976-1980 era of releases.

The Asylum Albums (1976-1980) collects Hejira, Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter and Mingus, as well as the live album Shadows And Light. It will also come with liner notes written by Meryl Streep, as well as artwork excerpted from one of Mitchell’s own paintings. You can listen to the 2024 remaster of ‘Coyote’, from Hejira, above.

Writing in the liner notes, Streep says: "It’s not just the artifact – music and lyrics — that Joni gives us. Her artistry leaves us, ourselves, changed. She has shifted things around inside us. And that’s how artists change the world."

Rhino will release The Asylum Albums (1976-1980) on June 21, 2024.
