Gutteral rockers Kasabian nearly came face to face with the reality of WAR that they jerked off to in the Sharpe-esque video to ‘Empire’ when a hand grenade was discovered in guitarist Serge Pizzorno’s West London garden.
The World War Two device was made safe by bomb disposal experts, who shut local streets. Speaking about the dangerous bit of discarded ordnance, Pizzorno told The Sun that the band’s favoured laddish pursuits could have resulted in one glorious kaboom: "All it could have taken was the vibrations from a kickabout in the garden or some loud music and we would have been blown to pieces in a pile of rubble and smoke," he said.
Pizzorno took the opportunity to align himself with the great canon of musicians who’ve carked it at 27: Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones… "I’m 27 as well and there’s a tradition of musicians meeting their end at my age," he mused portentously. "It’s all sorted now and we should be moving in there in a few weeks."
