London’s O2 Academy Brixton To Reopen In April

The venue will reopen with a gig featuring two UK tribute bands

London’s O2 Academy Brixton is set to fully reopen on Friday, April 19.

The venue confirmed news of its reopening on social media today (March 4), revealing that four tribute bands will play across two gigs in April. On April 19, it will host Nirvana UK and The Smyths, and the following Friday, on April 26, Definitely Mightbe and UK Foo Fighters will play live. Editors and The Black Keys are set to play gigs there in May, according to venue listings online.

O2 Academy Brixton has been closed since December 2022, when a crush during an Asake gig at the venue left two people dead and others injured. The venue’s license was suspended as a result of the incident. Lambeth Council ultimately decided to reinstate the license at a review hearing last September provided the venue operators, Academy Music Group (AMG), adhered to a series of new safety measures.
