Beth Gibbons Reveals Debut Solo LP, ‘Lives Outgrown’

The Portishead member explores motherhood, the menopause and anxiety on the record

Portishead’s Beth Gibbons is lining up her debut solo album for release this May.

Titled Lives Outgrown, Gibbons has been working on the album for around a decade. She produced it in collaboration with Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford and former Talk Talk drummer Lee Harris. It’s said to explore motherhood, the menopause and anxiety. You can watch a video for lead track ‘Floating On A Moment’ above.

Speaking about the album, Gibbons said in a statement: "I realised what life was like with no hope and that was a sadness I’d never felt. People started dying. When you’re young, you never know the endings, you don’t know how it’s going to pan out. You think, ‘We’re going to get beyond this. It’s going to get better.’ Some endings are hard to digest. Now that I’ve come out of the other end, I just think you’ve got to be brave."

Domino will release Lives Outgrown on May 17, 2024.
