New NTS Compilation Explores São Paulo’s Baile Funk Scene

The 22-track release offers an insight into the unique Brazilian sound

A new compilation set for release through NTS Radio’s in-house record label is set to explore the baile funk scene of São Paulo.

Featuring 22 tracks, funk.BR – São Paulo spotlights the unique sound, which is an offshoot of a strand of Brazilian funk music called mandelão. It also covers related sub-genres such as ritmado and bruxaria. You can listen to three tracks from the compilation just below.

Curated by music journalists Jonathan Kim and Felipe Maia, funk.BR – São Paulo features tracks by some of the scene’s biggest names, such as DJ Arana and DJ Blakes, as well as emerging artists like DJ Dayeh, DJ P7 and Bonekinha Iraquiana. DJ K, fresh from the release of an album called PÂNICO NO SUBMUNDO on Nyege Nyege Tapes last year, also appears on the release.

The compilation follows on from previous genre-focused compilations put out by NTS, covering sounds such as amapiano, dungeon synth and cumbiaton.

NTS will release funk.BR – São Paulo on March 29, 2024.
