Peter Gabriel is to release his long-awaited new album, I/O, before the end of this year.
Teased via a string of single releases through 2023, the new record marks Gabriel’s first album of new material in 21 years. Having first put out the single ‘Panopticon’ in January, further new songs have appeared through this year on the occasion of each month’s full moon. The record takes in contributions from Brian Eno, XL Recordings label owner Richard Russell, guitarist David Rhodes, bassist Tony Levin, drummer Manu Katché and pianist Tom Cawley.
Gabriel has reportedly been working on I/O for the last 20 years. In a press statement, he said: "After a year’s-worth of full moon releases, I’m very happy to see all these new songs back together on the good ship I/O and ready for their journey out into the world."
Each track on the new record comes with two separate stereo mixes: a ‘Bright-Side Mix’ and a ‘Dark-Side Mix’. A third Dolby Atmos mix – dubbed the ‘In-Side Mix’ – will also be included on a three-disc CD release of I/O.
Real World will release I/O on December 1, 2023.
