Joy Orbison Digs Into The Archives For New Release

'archive 09-10' collects a number of previously unreleased cuts from the early part of the producer's career

Joy Orbison has revisited some of his earliest material for a new digital-only EP, archive 09-10.

Available now, the five-track release takes in a number of previously unreleased cuts that were originally produced by the UK artist during the titular time period. Two of them, ‘tentative bidding demo’ and ‘smother demo’, have been long sought-after having appeared on YouTube a number of years ago in the form of radio rips. The three other cuts have previously been given a limited release and are now available on streaming platforms for the first time. You can listen to ‘gr etiquette’ from the release just below, and get the full EP on Bandcamp here.

Writing on Instagram about the time period during which the tracks on archive 09-10 were produced, Joy Orbison, real name Peter O’Grady, said: "I had mucked about on FruityLoops and Cubase for years but I think this was the first time I had a bit of a direction or sound. My only goal was to get one of my tracks played on Hessle Audio’s Sub FM show, that was literally it."

archive 09-10 follows O’Grady’s 2021 mixtape still slipping vol. 1, as well as a series of recent single releases: ‘red velve7’, ‘pinky ring’ and ‘2M3 2U’.

archive 09-10 is out now on Hinge Finger.
