Jack White To Work With Kid Congo Powers

Former Gun Club, Cramps and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds guitarist Kid Congo Powers has revealed that he is likely to work with White Stripes/Raconteurs/Dead Weather head honcho Jack White.

Speaking exclusively to The Quietus ahead of his show at the 100 Club last night (Nov 29th) with his new band The Pink Monkey Birds, Powers, discussing the impact of the seminal blues-punk outfit The Gun Club he said: "I see [my influence on other bands] and they come and tell me and it’s nice that’s all not all been for nothing. The Gun Club especially because that was more my kinda vision [as compared to The Cramps] in the beginning."

Asked how he felt about the White Stripes playing The Gun Club’s 1981 debut album, The Fire of Love in its entirety on the PA before taking the stage at their shows, Powers responded: "They are very respectful. I know Jack and Meg and they’ve always been super nice, you know, and they were really shy when they first met me."

He then added: "We’ve thought about [working together] every once in a while and we throw the idea out there and then we throw it at each other. Maybe one day as Jack’s a busy boy!"

The guitarist also paid tribute to his former alma maters by playing The Cramps’ ‘I’m Cramped’ and ‘Goo Goo Muck’ as well as The Gun Club’s ‘Sex Beat’, ‘For The Love of Ivy’ and an instrumental version of ‘Mother of Earth’.

Come back to The Quietus later this week when we run Julian Marszalek’s Kid Congo Powers feature.
