Disgraced popstar Gary Glitter is continuing his deportation jaunt around eastern climes.
He was deported from Vietnam, where he was serving a sentence for sexual abuse, on Tuesday. However, Glitter refused to be flown back to the United Kingdom, claiming that he’d got a dicky ticker.
Yesterday afternoon, Glitter left Thailand for Hong Kong, claiming that he needed to go to another Asian country. Perhaps forgetting that Chris Patten had lowered the Union Flag over Government House in 1997, Glitter has found the Chinese authorities to be an unfriendly bunch, and he was put on a plane back to Thailand.
The Thai authorities have insisted that Glitter be instantly flown back to the United Kingdom. Police Col. Worawat Amornwiwat told the AP that "Thailand is not allowing him to enter the country and Hong Kong is turning him back so there is no choice for him now. It is the responsibility of Thai Airways to take him out of the country."
A British Foreign Office spokesperson said they had no idea what would happen next: "It’s our understanding that he’s arrived in Bangkok. He will either try to go somewhere else or come back to the UK." Upon arrival back in Britain, Glitter would be questioned by police and added to the sex offenders register.
Nineteen countries have so far refused to allow Gary Glitter to cross their borders.
