Posthumous Album By Tony Allen, ‘Tony Allen JID018’, To Be Released

The LP was recorded with Jazz Is Dead label founder Adrian Younge in August 2018

Los Angeles label Jazz Is Dead is releasing a posthumous album by Tony Allen.

Titled Tony Allen JID018, the eight-track album features music recorded by the late drummer, together with Jazz Is Dead founder Adrian Younge, in Los Angeles in August 2018. Its release in July will coincide with what would have been Allen’s 83rd birthday. You can listen to lead track ‘Don’t Believe The Dancers’ just below.

In a statement, Jazz Is Dead’s Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad said: "Despite the finite time that Allen had on this planet, as do all of us, his contributions to music are timeless and untouchable, and will continue to inform and inspire generations to come.

"Jazz Is Dead is honoured to have played a part in the legacy of Tony Allen and invites you to discover the unparalleled genius that shifted the entire world’s conception of time, a magician who alchemised the past with the future and influenced countless listeners, currently and to come."

Allen passed away in April 2020 at the age of 79. An album that he had been working on until his death, There Is No End, was given a posthumous release exactly one year after his passing.

Jazz Is Dead will release Tony Allen JID018 on July 7, 2023.
