African Head Charge Detail New Album, ‘A Trip To Bolgatanga’

The record, their first in 12 years, sees founding member Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah link up once again with Adrian Sherwood

African Head Charge have a new album on the way.

Their first full-length record in 12 years, A Trip To Bolgatanga takes in 10 tracks, recorded primarily by the project’s founding member, Bonjo Iyabinghi, together with Adrian Sherwood. To mark the album’s announcement, they’ve shared a video for lead track ‘Microdosing’, which you can watch above.

Speaking about the production process of the album, Iyabinhghi said: "All the drumming and the chanting, it took a while to do. I’m always meeting drummers, all over Ghana. The Fante, the Akim, the Ga, the Bolgatanga, all the tribes, and they all have their different drums. I try to learn as much as I can, and put it all together. It’s like cooking, when you’re blending all of the elements, like yam, banana, pumpkin, and the end taste, that’s where it matters. That’s how I look at music."

On-U Sound will release A Trip To Bolgatanga on July 7, 2023.
