Talking Heads Concert Film, ‘Stop Making Sense’, Set For Re-Release

The 1984 film has been restored in 4K ready to return to cinemas later in 2023

Talking Heads’ concert film Stop Making Sense is to be re-released by independent film company A24.

Set to return to select cinemas later in 2023, the film has been restored in 4K especially for the re-release, while a deluxe vinyl and digital edition of the soundtrack will also be released this year via the Rhino label. You can watch a new promo trailer for the film, in which Talking Heads frontman David Byrne goes to a dry cleaners to collect the iconic oversized suit that he wore during live performances, above.

Directed by filmmaker Jonathan Demme, the footage featured in Stop Making Sense was captured across three nights at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December 1983. The band were touring their 1982 album Speaking In Tongues during the run of shows, with other classic records such as Remain In Light and Fear Of Music having been released in the years before.

Rhino will release Stop Making Sense on August 18, 2023.
