Björk Appears On New Version Of Shygirl’s ‘Woe’

The track features on the forthcoming deluxe version of Shygirl's 2022 album 'Nymph'

Björk has collaborated with Shygirl on a new version of the latter’s track ‘Woe’.

The cut is set to feature on a forthcoming deluxe version of Shygirl’s 2022 album Nymph, titled Nymph_o, which also takes in contributions from Arca, Eartheater, Erika de Casier and Tinashe. You can watch a video for the Björk-featuring version of ‘Woe’, shot at a Tokyo love hotel and in other locations around the city, above.

Speaking about her lyrical contribution to ‘Woe’, Björk said: "Shy told me in her lyric she is talking about both different amorous interests and fame, and how suddenly everyone wants something from you, and you should be thrilled but you’re not. I decided to take an angle as an older ‘amour’ and give advice, because in ‘Woe’ she is asking a question and I decided to reply to it from the SUFI angle which is: enjoy the wanting and the longing and NOT getting what you want but enjoy wanting it.

"Also on a more everyday personal level it is about sometimes when you are not satisfied in a relationship, you should not expect your partner to heal that or fix that, rather look at him or her as a partner-in-crime or a fellow-not-getter, another human with that insatiable longing."

Released in September 2022, Shygirl’s original Nymph album was listed among tQ’s favourite albums of last year.

Because Music will release Nymph_o on April 14, 2023.
