Brussels’ Schiev Festival Partners With SHAPE+ Initiative For 2023

Egyptian producer ABADIR is among the five artists playing this year's festival as part of the SHAPE+ programme

Brussels festival Schiev returns this weekend for 2023, and will partner once again with the Creative Europe-supported SHAPE+ platform for a showcase of new and upcoming artists.

Among those set to play the festival as part of the SHAPE+ initiative are the Cairo-born and SVBKVLT label-affiliated producer ABADIR, The Hague-based sound artist Mihalis Shammas, CHINABOT-affiliated producer Pisitakun, Ukrainian composer and violinist Katarina Gryvul, and Portuguese pointillistic experimenter Luis Pestana.

The festival will also take in sets from the likes of Yamila, Ojoo Gyal, Cigvë and Lazza Gio, among others, in addition to a label market showcasing various Belgian record labels.

SHAPE+ describes itself as a "European platform for innovative music and audiovisual art co-financed by the Creative Europe programme." It aims to support "emerging talent, connecting them to local communities and audiences through collaborative residencies with multiple artistic outcomes, commissioned artworks, as well as one-off presentations and performances."

The initiative recently hosted a showcase at Berlin’s CTM festival, and will pop up at a number of other European festivals throughout the year.

Schieve is currently ongoing in Brussels until February 12. Find out more about the festival here.
