This year’s MOBO Awards will feature two new categories devoted to the best acts from the worlds of electronic and alternative music.
Following years of calls for the awards show to recognise the talent of Black artists from outside pop music, R&B and hip-hop, the introduction of the new categories will coincide with the MOBOs’ 25th anniversary edition.
The acts nominated for the first Best Electronic/Dance Act award at this year’s MOBOs are Anz, Eliza Rose, FKA twigs, Jax Jones, Nia Archives and SHERELLE. Picking up nods in the Best Alternative Music Act category are Big Joanie, Bob Vylan, Kid Bookie, Loathe, Nova Twins and Skunk Anansie.
Running since 1996 as a celebration of music from Black origin, and Black artists, other existing award categories recognise artists from genres such as gospel, jazz and reggae. Little Simz is one of this year’s most-nominated artists, picking up nods for Album Of The Year, Best Female Act, Best Hip Hop Act and Video Of The Year.
This year’s MOBO Awards will take place at the OVO Arena Wembley on November 30. Find more information here.
