The Mars Volta Detail First Album In A Decade

The band have also shared a new track, 'Vigil', lifted from the forthcoming self-titled record

The Mars Volta have shared details of their first album in a decade.

Set for release next month, the self-titled LP – the band’s first since reforming after they first split up in 2013 – takes in 14 tracks, including the recently released ‘Blacklight Shine’ and ‘Graveyard Love’. It also features a track called ‘Vigil’ which the band have newly shared to mark the album’s official announcement. You can watch a video for the song above.

While previous albums from The Mars Volta have often seen the band’s Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala explore longer, prog-rock-centred sounds, the new album is said to feature a number of shorter tracks – only two of them clock in at over four minutes according to press materials.

Cloud Hill will release The Mars Volta on September 16, 2022.
