Nick Cave Reveals New Spoken Word Project, ‘Seven Psalms’

Written during lockdown, the project sees Cave team up with Warren Ellis

Nick Cave has unveiled a new spoken word-based release called Seven Psalms.

Out in June, the record is comprised of seven spoken word pieces, which were written in lockdown, and accompanying musical compositions made in collaboration with Warren Ellis. It also features a 12-minute instrumental piece which the duo recorded amid studio sessions for their 2021 album Carnage, with all eight pieces set to be made available across two sides of a limited edition 10-inch vinyl release – it can be pre-ordered now via Cave’s online store. In a statement about the new release, Cave said: "While in lockdown I wrote a number of psalms, or small, sacred songs – one a day for a week. The seven psalms are presented as one long meditation – on faith, rage, love, grief, mercy, sex and praise. A veiled, contemplative offering borne of an uncertain time. I hope you like it."

Goliath Records Ltd. will release Seven Psalms on June 17, 2022.
