Hyperdub Launches Book-Based Offshoot, Flatlines Press

Its first title, 'Zero', focuses on the label 36 Ø events to date at London's Corsica Studios

Hyperdub has launched a new book imprint, called Flatlines Press.

The first release is Zero, which takes a look at the 36 midweek Ø events that the label held at London venue Corsica Studios between January 2017 and March 2020. A press release describes the book, which has been pulled together by Kode9 and Shannen SP, as a "time capsule" of the event series. It comes with artwork designed by graphic artist Manuel Sepulveda, AKA Optigram.

Ø events frequently featured visual installations and exhibitions in one room, and artists playing DJ or live sets in another room. A number of Hyperdub signees played the events, as well as guests such as Björk, Tirzah, Slikback and Mark Leckey.

Zero‘s 120 pages include colour photos of the installations that were set up at events, conceptual texts, biographies of artists that played the events, and a flyer archive. All profits from the sale of the book will be donated to Latin Elephant, a charity working to help support traders and BAME communities displaced by the gentrification of Elephant & Castle.

Hyperdub is also lining up another book release, im hole book, for October 22, in support of aya’s upcoming debut album, <a href="https://thequietus.com/articles/30369-aya-debut-album-details-hyperdub-im-hole target="out">im hole, for the label.

Flatlines Press will publish Zero on October 12, 2021.
