µ-Ziq & Mrs Jynx Detail New Album, ‘Secret Garden’

The record came about after the pair bonded over a mutual feeling of grief, after each losing a parent to cancer

Planet Mu is releasing a new album from label head Mike Paradinas, under his µ-Ziq alias, in collaboration with Mrs Jynx.

Titled Secret Garden, the album both has its roots in a mutual admiration of each other’s work, as well as a simultaneous feeling of grief that both were feeling at the same time, after each losing a parent to cancer. Having taken some time to discuss the therapeutic power of writing music during tough times, Paradinas suggested a collaboration between the two of them. You can listen to the album’s closing track, ‘The Secret Garden’, just below.

Speaking about the collaboration, Paradinas says: "I’ve always thought Hannah’s melodic sensibilities chime well with my own, and I’ve wanted to collaborate with her for a long time, since [her 2010 album for Planet Mu] Shark Carousel in fact, because she’d written some melodies that I wish I had."

The two producers came up with the album’s ten tracks over the course of around as many days, with the pair expressing themselves via deeply melodic music in this case. Planet Mu’s release notes describe the album as "an opus of deeply personal moments of grief, depicted in a feeling of serene, misty tranquility that makes it easy to get lost in."

Planet Mu will release Secret Garden on November 19, 2021.
