Aphex Twin’s Sister Is Wales’ New Climate Change Minister

"A lot of his ambient stuff is lovely," Julie James commented of her brother's work in a recent interview

Wales’ new climate change minister Julie James is Aphex Twin’s sister, it has emerged.

Julie James confirmed the relation in a recent BBC interview, which follows her being appointed to the role of Wales’ climate change minister in May of this year. In the interview, she said she was "very much" a fan of her brother’s music, though did clarify that doesn’t quite extend to all of it.

"Some of it’s, I think Charlie Brooker once said, it was like being inside a CT scanner for an hour," she said. "But some of it is glorious. He writes beautiful jazz. He did a collaboration with Phillip Glass, which is glorious, and a lot of his ambient stuff is lovely."

James went on to say she and her family are "very proud" of her brother, and also revealed that she gifted a vinyl copy of Aphex Twin’s 2018 Collapse EP to fellow Welsh politician Carwyn Jones, when he stood down as first minister and Welsh Labour leader in December 2018.

The relevation of Richard D. James’ sibling relation to Julie James follows on from he and visual collaborator Weirdcore selling an NFT at auction for $128,000 earlier this year.
