The Pop Group And Dennis Bovell Detail ‘Y’ Dub Rework

Bovell was invited to reinterpret the album after his 2019 appearance at the band's Salon Y event in London

The Pop Group and Dennis Bovell have reworked the former’s 1979 debut album, Y.

Titled Y In Dub, the record includes nine dub-infused interpretations of the tracks from the original album, which was also produced by Bovell. You can listen to the new version of ‘Words Disobey Me’ above.

The reworked album was born from a performance that Bovell did at The Pop Group’s Salon Y event at London’s Rough Trade East in 2019, which was part of the 40th anniversary celebrations for the original album. At the event, Bovell performed live versions of ‘She Is Beyond Good & Evil’ and ‘3.38’, with it soon leading to a full recreation of the album. Both The Pop Group and Bovell will perform the new version of Y for the first time on July 31 at Coventry’s HMV Empire.

Mute will release Y In Dub on October 29, 2021.
