tQ Writers To Discuss Serge Gainsbourg In Online Talk

The event at the Institut Français will take place online next month

The 30th anniversary of Serge Gainsbourg’s death will be marked by a live event at the Institut Français in London next month.

The online conversation, taking place at 7pm on March 2, will take place between regular tQ contributors Jeremy Allen and David McKenna, and will be beamed live from the famous institute in South Kensington.

The event will mark the release by Jawbone Preess last week of Allen’s new book, Relax Baby Be Cool: The Artistry And Audacity Of Serge Gainsbourg. You can read an exclusive extract from the book via tQ here. The author will be interviewed by McKenna, a French music expert whose Rockfort column regularly graces the pages of this website.

Gainsbourg’s cult has only grown since his death in 1991, and the book re-examines an artist who thrived on controversy, re-contextualising him in an age where provocation is not the currency it once was.

The online event’s participants will consider Gainsbourg’s career, his art and his audacity, and also his legacy, with videos from his career presented during the discussion. More information on the ticketed event can be found at the Institut Francais’ website.
