John Carpenter Reveals New Album, ‘Lost Themes III’

It's his first album of non-soundtrack music in nearly five years

John Carpenter has a new album on the way, Lost Themes III: Alive After Dark.

His first album of non-soundtrack music in nearly five years, it sees him continue his musical partnership with Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies, who he first worked with on 2015’s first instalment of the Lost Themes series. Above, you can listen to the new album’s lead track, ‘Weeping Ghost’.

"We begin with a theme, a bass line, a pad, something that sounds good and will lead us to the next layer," John says of the studio process of himself, his son and Davies. "We then just keep adding on from there. We understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses, how to communicate without words, and the process is easier now than it was in the beginning. We’ve matured."

Sacred Bones will release Lost Themes III: Alive After Dark on February 5, 2021.
