The Bug has teamed up with Dis Fig for a new album, In Blue.
Due out on Hyperdub next month, the pair refer to their style on In Blue as ‘Tunnel Sound’. The prototype rhythms for the album were written by The Bug, AKA Kevin Martin, specifically for a 2018 Solid Steel mix, which paired his then freshly mixed instrumentals with classic Jamaican dancehall.
Deciding against releasing the instrumentals in their raw form, he decided to seek out a vocalist for them in Dis Fig, who had coincidentally contacted Martin for permission to include a King Midas Sound track in a mix she was putting together, alongside a copy of her album PURGE, around the time he was seeking a vocalist for the project. From there, the pair spent almost two years working on In Blue with Martin mixing the album from his Brussels home during lockdown. You can check out lead track ‘You’ above.
Hyperdub will release In Blue on November 20, 2020.
