TUSK Reveals 2020 Film Programme For Virtual Festival

Archive footage from the 2012 and 2013 editions of the festival has been newly recovered featuring sets by Oren Ambarchi, Hieroglyphic Being and more

TUSK has shared full details of the film programme for its upcoming 2020 virtual edition.

Responding to the COVID-19 crisis, this year’s festival will take place entirely online, with the likes of Aaron Dilloway, Guttersnipe, Laura Cannell, Deathprod, Angel Bat Dawid, and Nihiloxica having already been confirmed to contribute exclusive live-streamed sets for the event. Alongside these sets, each night of TUSK Virtual will feature elements of the festival’s annual film programme.

Highlights this year include film examinations of the work of UK artists such as Vicki Bennett and David Tibet, a celebration of the music and visuals of Sir Richard Bishop, "psychedelic mischief" from Argentina’s Los Siquicos Litoralenos, an exploration of Church Of Satan founder Anton LaVey, and a performance of avant artist Kurt Schwitters’ sound poem Ursonate.

TUSK Virtual will also take in a newly commissioned 10-part serial by Edinburgh-based animator and comic artist Malcy Duff, called Dental Practice. Spread across 10 weeknights and with weekend omnibuses, Duff describes the series as "a cartoon with a silent soundtrack split into ten parts."

He continues: "It tells the story of a dentist and their patient(s) as they look into each other’s mouths. I would encourage the viewer to treat this cartoon like a neighbour of the wonderful music at this festival. Place your ear on the wall."

Finally, TUSK Virtual’s film programme will dig into the archives to present newly recovered footage from the 2012 and 2013 editions of the festival. Sets from the likes of Hijokaidan, Hieroglyphic Being, Fushitsusha, Endon, Smegma, Oren Ambarchi, Eyvind Kand & Jessika Kenney, and many more will be revisited for the occasion.

Further details of TUSK’s plans for this year’s virtual edition will be revealed in the coming months ahead of the festival.

TUSK Virtual runs from September 28 to October 11, 2020. Find more information here.
