FKA Twigs Shares New Short Film, ‘We Are The Womxn’

The video was filmed around the UK artist's trip to Atlanta's Afropunk festival last year

FKA twigs has shared a new short film called We Are The Womxn.

The short was captured during the UK artist’s 2019 tour in support of her latest album, MAGDALENE. The film focuses on her trip to Atlanta in October of last year for Afropunk festival, as well as her involvement in a sacred moon dance led by spiritual leader Queen Afua. Her visit to Blue Flame, Atlanta’s first Black strip club, also makes up part of the film, which you can watch above.

"I’m actually pretty shy, but I felt so encouraged to dance and enjoy my body by all the amazing womxn who came together," twigs says about visiting the club. "I particularly bonded with one dancer at Blue Flame [named] Kharisma. She had such vibrant energy, and at the beginning of the night she called the other girls on to the stage to be admired and supported in their expression."

We Are The Womxn is the latest in a series of short films from the artist that have followed the release of MAGDALENE. The first of those, Practice, which she shared last year, focused on the training process for the filming of the video for single ‘Cellophane’.
