Adult Entertainment are a new two-piece band formed by musician, artist, poet and Salford club scene mainstay Charlotte Cannon with Adrian Flanagan (The Moonlandingz, International Teachers Of Pop, Eccentronic Research Council.)
With music due later this year, the pair are embarking on a run of ‘late night parties’ across the UK, starting with a gig at The Social in London this Friday (February 21). Tickets are available here.
To celebrate, they’ve shared a clip of themselves performing live at Adult Entertainment HQ exclusively with The Quietus. You can take a look above at what Cannon calls their "artistic response to January 31st, 2020" above.
"It’s like the ’70s again, isn’t it?" adds Flanagan. "Far right dogma being pushed on people, racism on the rise, riots, extreme poverty, sexism. Britain right now is like being held against our will on the film set of a particularly ‘unfunny’ Carry On film!"
The first late night Adult Entertainment party took place in Sheffield last weekend, where Richard Hawley DJ’d sleazy R&R and stripper music from the ’50s and ’60s, a "non-specified European fella called Dimitri [sang] about Cars and selling nightclubs", and Adult Entertainment played a set that reportedly "delivered a sensual pounding and sent everyone home grinning, but bandy legged."
The Social show will feature support from Mushy P (aka Lottie Pendlebury of Goat Girl) plus DJ sets from the Heavenly Records crew. The following Friday (February 28), their ‘3 Fridays In February Tour’ concludes in Manchester with an ‘Acid Heavy’ DJ set from Graham Massey.
“In light of the passing of the guvnor this week, Andrew Weatherhall, it’s only right that this weekend (and every weekend for eternity) – everyone everywhere – wherever they are – should both juxtapose and party, Expose and oppose!!" says Flanagan of the shows.
