Brian Wilson Opposes Show By Mike Love’s Beach Boys

Love is currently touring under the Beach Boys name with a different line-up which is set to play for a pro-trophy hunting organisation

Brian Wilson has spoken out against an upcoming show planned by Mike Love’s iteration of the Beach Boys, which is set to take place at Reno, Nevada’s Safari Club International Convention.

"It has been brought to my attention that on Wednesday February 5, the Beach Boys touring group licensed by Mike Love are headlining at the Safari Club International Convention in Reno, Nevada," Brian Wilson wrote online. "This organisation supports trophy hunting, which both [bandmate Al Jardine] and I are emphatically opposed to."

He went on to add a link to a Change.org petition that calls for a boycott of the Beach Boys’ music until the the performance is cancelled.

Mike Love responded in a statement, saying; "We look forward to a night of great music in Reno and, as always, support freedom of thought and expression as a fundamental tenet of our rights as Americans."

The Safari Club International Convention, an annual event, has been protested by numerous animal rights groups for profiting from the hunting of endangered animals as well as for promoting unethical hunting practices. This year’s event features keynote speaker Donald Trump Jr.
