Korg is remaking the classic ARP 2600 semi-modular synth for 2020.
The company is bringing back the model for a limited run with the full-size replica of the original synth set to come with added MIDI DIN and USB connections. The update also adds the ARP 3260’s duophonic keyboard as well as a new arpeggiator and sequencer. You can take a look at the new ARP 2600 via the video above.
The original ARP 2600 was developed by Dennis Colin and released by Alan R. Pearlman’s ARP Instruments in 1971. It was famously used to create the sounds for R2-D2 in the original Star Wars movies and, more recently, featured on Todd Terje’s 2012 disco hit ‘Inspector Norse’.
The ARP 2600 is the second ARP Instruments product to be remade by Korg. In 2015, it released an update on the Odyssey analogue synth shortly after acquiring the trademark for the company.
Korg’s ARP 2600 update will retail at $3,899 when it goes on sale. Korg has said it’s a "one-time-only" run and it will ship to retailers in February. You can find more information here.
