Laibach Announce New EP, Party Songs

The six-track release takes in "unpublished tracks from the repertoire of the band's 2015 performances in North Korea"

Laibach have announced a new EP, titled Party Songs.

The six-track EP, a press release explains, is made up of "unpublished tracks from the repertoire of the band’s 2015 performances in North Korea". You can watch a video for the Arduous March version of ‘Honourable, Dead or Alive, When Following the Revolutionary Road’ above.

The track is based on an aria from the classic North Korean revolutionary opera Tell, O Forest (1972), which is one of five famous revolutionary operas in the country and was written and produced under the guidance of the Kim Jong Il.

A press release explains that Laibach’s re-interpretation of the song "was prepared for the 2015 Liberation Day concert in Ponghwa Theatre in Pyongyang, but deemed too ‘confusing’ by the North Korean hosts and struck from the concert repertoire."

Three versions of ‘Honourable, Dead or Alive, When Following the Revolutionary Road’ feature on the release in addition to two versions of North Korean pop hit ‘We Will Go to Mount Paektu’ and all-Korean folk song ‘Arirang’.

Mute will release Party Songs digitally and on 12" vinyl on November 22.
