Beatport has launched its new LINK streaming service as a public beta meaning that subscribers can now load tracks from the music provider directly into Pioneer DJ’s rekordbox software.
Users can pick from a library of more than 6 million tracks through LINK, though they can only store a certain number of tracks offline at one time. Those who sign up to the LINK PRO service (priced at $39.99 a month) will have access to 50 tracks offline at a time, while those who sign up to the LINK PRO+ service (priced at $59.99 a month) can stream up to 100 tracks offline. Tracks, Beatport says, can be streamed at a quality above the respected standard of 320kbps MP3s.
The service was initially rolled out through Pioneer DJ’s WeDJ mobile app back in May, but its full version can now be accessed through Mac.
The move to launch the service has attracted some criticism from producers and labels, with many fearing that it could further dwindle income from sales of music if DJs choose to stream tracks instead. As a result, many labels and artist chose to opt out of the service and remove their music from streaming.
