A new fund has been established in the UK to provide financial support to touring artists.
The Featured Artists Coalition (FAC) is behind the new initiative, dubbed the UK Artist Touring Fund, which is designed to support anyone who’s experienced financial problems from touring this year. Eligible artists will have access to up to £7,000, or a maximum of 40 percent of total tour expenditure.
The fund is open to artists of all genres, and individuals from marginalised communities are encouraged to appeal for support. Applications are open from 11 to 20 March.
To be eligible for financial support, UK-based artists must have performed shows before October 31 this year, in small to mid-sized venues booked for domestic headline tours. These tours must have had a minimum of three shows, and applicants are expected to provide evidence of a financial shortfall. An additional Access Fund has also been established to help cover costs related to accessibility and childcare, among other factors.
Phase One of the fund will distribute proceeds of £125,000, and has been collated from voluntary £1 ticket contributions from arena and stadium shows by Radiohead, The Cure and other acts. FAC is hoping to make Phase Two of the fund available to artists from all regions and backgrounds.
