Justin K. Broadrick will no longer perform live as Godflesh.
The UK artist has been forced to call time on the project as a live entity after undergoing abdominal surgery three weeks ago to treat an inguinal hernia that, he said on Instagram, was “close to an emergency”. Recovery is expected to take around six months, and he will be able to resume performing as JK Flesh and jesu following his recovery as those projects, unlike Godflesh, don’t require him to scream or shout.
Writing on Instagram, Broadrick said: “If I continue to perform and shout/scream as I do with Godflesh, then I’m at high risk for more hernias, and blowing out my abdominal wall entirely. Godflesh live ended the day of my surgery, and upon the surgeon making this statement. I’m now just about walking freely, but with little pace, albeit extremely carefully.”
Broadrick did have some good news for fans of his Godflesh projects, however, revealing that he’d almost completed work on a new album under the moniker, titled DECAY. It’s expected to be released via Relapse in July or August. He also hinted at another new solo project, which will include his voice.
“After that there will continue to be Godflesh dub albums, live albums and so on, but no new studio releases nor performances,” Broadrick said.
