Quietus Social: AFX Lecture & Freaky Dancing Launch

USE 'EM OR LOSE 'EM! SUPPORT THE QUIETUS! SUPPORT THE SOCIAL!

Do you like peas? Do you like cheese? Well, after you’ve enjoyed a bowl of cheesy peas, ask yourself two supplementary questions: do you like The Quietus? Do you like The Social? If the answer – as well it should be – is a resounding, ‘YES!’ to both, then please buy a ticket for the first Quietus Social of 2019.

These events are going to be running once a month from now on with shared interests of music, books and getting mellow lit on a school night.

The first event of this year runs on Wednesday April 24, and you can get tickets here.

The inaugural 2019 edition features a full album playback of the Richard D. James Album to be followed by John Doran presenting Selected Ambient Walks: Aphex Twin And Cornish Mythology. This lecture, which was first given at Unsound Krakow in 2018, will be presented in 5.1 AFX Vision and draws many links between the tin mining industry, West Country witches, the legend of Merlin’s keep, state vandalism of the Logan rock, Michel Foucault and the history of the Cornish pasty. (Powerpoint)

The evening is also the London launch of Freaky Dancing: The Complete Collection. Join the makers of the legendary Hacienda acid house fanzine and their modern contemporaries for a discussion of the arts and politics of fanzine making.

There will also be a late bar and DJs. Doors at 7pm, the action starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £4 or £5 on the door.

The Quietus… The Social… Use ’em or loose ’em…
