Resident Advisor has shared a selection of new or previously unheard archive mixes by a selection of big names from across the electronic music world for the 1000th instalment of its podcast series.
Consisting of 10 mixes, the unveiling of the 1000th instalment of the podcast was rounded off today (August 14) having been spread out across this week. The final two mixes shared by the publication were a lengthy club recording from now-closed venue Trouw in Amsterdam, featuring the only ever back-to-back set between Andrew Weatherall and DJ Harvey; and two separate unheard recordings from the late Frankie Knuckles’ personal archives, dating back to 1989 and 1996.
This week has also seen Resident Advisor share mixes by DJ Sprinkles, whose contribution is influenced by Israel’s ongoing attack on Gaza; Theo Parrish, with three hours recorded at London’s fabric late last year; Helena Hauff; Mark Ernestus; Bicep; Sama’ Abdulhadi; Tim Reaper; and Jyoty.
Resident Advisor’s podcast mix series first launched in 2006 and has run weekly since. The publication recently launched a dedicated new microsite for the podcast to collect all 1000 instalments to date together in one place, as well as future additions to the series.
In a statement, Resident Advisor editor Gabriel Szatan said: “Life in 2006 seems very far away, a blur of MSN, MySpace, and minimal techno. When the series launched, there wasn’t any explicit intention to rival the BBC [Radio 1] Essential Mix for longevity, impact and breadth, but that’s more or less what happened anyway.
“Having set ourselves the ambition of going 10 for RA.1000, we’re thrilled with how it turned out. An enormous thanks to all artists for their contributions; not only for the 1000th mix, but across the series’ history. Being able to give so many transformative DJs and electronic artists their flowers in real time is a proud moment for us at RA. As for those we couldn’t make happen this time round: see you for RA.2000?”
