The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has released its year-end music revenue report, and 2018’s figures show that 75% of money made in the US last year came from streaming.
Revenue from recorded music in the retail sector hit $9.8 billion over the course of the 12 months, which was a 12% increase on 2017’s figures. 2018 was also the third consecutive year of two-digit growth in revenue in the sector with much of that being attributed to the popularity of streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music.
Vinyl sales in the US also increased a little in 2018, marking an 8% rise on 2017’s figures, while CD sales continued to plummet with a 37% decrease on the previous year. You can check the report for yourself here.
