Light In The Attic is set to release a compilation collecting a number of previously unheard recordings by the actor Jeff Bridges.
Dating back to the late 70s, the songs featured on Slow Magic, 1977-1978 were written and recorded by Bridges with a band consisting of some of his oldest and closest friends. The actor remained a keen musician through the 70s, after being nominated at age 22 for an Oscar for his role in 1971’s The Last Picture Show, and he bought a house in the hills above Malibu that decade which became a hangout for him and various musician friends.
The group had convened together for a number of jam-based recording sessions during the later half of the 70s, and the music featured on Slow Magic, 1977-1978 comes from a single decaying cassette labeled “July 1978”. Bridges was closely involved in the making of Light In The Attic’s compilation, with the label saying he “completely devoted himself to every aspect of this release – sharing stories for countless hours, studying mixes and sequences, and even hand-drawing a version of the LITA logo for the artwork”.
In a statement, Bridges said it was “pretty wild that this thing that happened around 50 years ago wants to bloom. I guess weirdness is what’s happening these days. You never can tell what’s gonna happen.”
