Sonic Youth Launch Live Recordings Archive

Sonic Youth's new live recordings archive features both audio and video content

Sonic Youth have launched an archive to house old live recordings.

Marking the 30th anniversary of their album Daydream Nation, the archive features both audio and visual content and will be made available via nugs.net for streaming. Content will also be available to download or purchase in CD format.

Amongst the shows available in the archive are a 2007 appearance in Glasgow (which can be watched or listened to) and a 1988 show at now-closed New York club CBGB.

"Through the years and as the times changed we recorded our live shows as often as we could, on cassettes, DATs, CD-Rs and later on multi-track recorders," says the group’s Steve Shelley. "We collected fan-generated audience tapes, shady bootlegs and anything we could get our hands on. We now maintain an archive of hundreds of hours of Sonic Youth concerts and we’d like to share some of our favourites."

The group also recently launched an online sale of hundreds of pieces of music equipment belonging to them, including effects pedals and guitars.
