Mogwai have shared details of their 11th studio album, The Bad Fire.

Spanning 10 tracks, the album was recorded in Blantyre, Scotland, and takes its name from a Scottish colloquialism for Hell. It draws inspiration from “a series of tough personal moments that the band found themselves in” after the release of 2021 album As The Love Continues, a press release said.

In a collective statement, the band said: “After the high of putting out As The Love Continues, the following years were personally hard for us. We’ve dealt with a lot of loss and in Barry’s case a serious family illness with one his daughters. Getting back together to write and record this record felt like a refuge and with [producer] John Congleton we feel that we’ve made something special. We often hear from people that our music has helped them get through hard times in their lives and for once I think it applies to us as well.”

To mark the announcement of The Bad Fire, Mogwai have shared lead track ‘Lion Rumpus’ alongside a video for the song.

Rock Action will release The Bad Fire on January 24, 2024.
