Three albums by John Cale that were originally released between 1974 and 1975 are to be reissued on vinyl in December.
Available via Proper Records, in collaboration with Universal Music, the new pressings of Fear, Slow Dazzle and Helen Of Troy have been produced “with scrupulous attention to the detail of the original UK first pressings”, according to a press release, and will be presented on audiophile 180gm vinyl.
Originally released in 1974, Fear was the first record Cale recorded upon returning to London having spent most of the previous decade based in the US. Having signed to Island for the record, he worked with Phil Manzanera and Brian Eno for its production.
Released swiftly after early in 1975, Slow Dazzle saw Cale build on the sound of Fear and cover Elvis Presley’s ‘Heartbreak Hotel’, while Helen Of Troy came out later the same year and was recorded between Cale producing Patti Smith’s classic record Horses and heading on a tour of Italy. It was the final studio album of his deal with Island that had begun with Fear.
The new pressings of the three albums arrive off the back of first-time reissues of Cale’s albums Paris 1919 and The Academy In Peril, which will be released by Domino next month.
Proper Records / Universal Music will release Fear, Slow Dazzle and Helen Of Troy on December 6, 2024.
