A crowdfunding campaign has been launched for a new book titled Sweaty Ceilings, which will celebrate the histories and untold stories behind a number of London’s landmark independent music venues past and present.
An Indiegogo fundraiser is aiming to rise £45,000 for the project before the end of this month, with various perks including pre-orders of the book, merchandise, custom tattoos and more available alongside different tiers of donations.
Raffle tickets are also available, with prizes including a Gretsch guitar, Roland amps and pedals, vinyl bundles from the likes of Warp and Domino, and tickets to gigs and festivals.
Each chapter of the book is penned by a different music journalist, with the likes of tQ editor John Doran, Robin Murray, Kate Solomon, Gemma Samways and Stephanie Phillips among the contributors, and a foreword comes from The Libertines’ Carl Barât.
Venues covered include the 100 Club, The Social, New River Studios, The MOTH Club, Scala and more, as well as a feature on dearly departed venues such as the Astoria, The Lock Tavern and The Coronet.
It is being worked on in conjunction with the Music Venue Trust, with a portion of the sales of each book going directly to the charity. The book also includes illustration from Simon Hayes and photography from a number of contributors.
