New Music Biennial, the UK event which spotlights special works by composers and artists working across a wide range of genres, has launched an open call for new works to be presented during next year’s edition.
The 2025 event will take place across two locations in 2025, firstly in Bradford as part of the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture celebrations from June 6 to 8, and then secondly at London’s Southbank Centre from July 4 to 6. Next year’s edition will comprise 20 pieces of new music from across all genres, with a duration of up to 15 minutes.
The deadline for applications for new commissions or to present existing pieces of new work is November 4, 2024, and the winning compositions will be selected by “a prestigious and diverse panel of judges”, New Music Biennial said. The final programme will be announced in early 2025.
In addition to the performances in Bradford and at Southbank Centre, New Music Biennial will be broadcast across BBC Radio 3 and pieces will be available through NMC Recordings following the festival. The event is the joint work of PRS Foundation and Southbank Centre, with additional support from Arts Council England.
Next year’s New Music Biennial will be the first since 2022, and the event has presented works by the likes of Mica Levi, Hannah Peel, AFRODEUTSCHE, Matthew Herbert, Gazelle Twin, Gavin Bryars, Anna Meredith and lots more since its launch in 2012.
