Experimental Electronic Music From Taiwan At Somerset House Studios

Music Hackspace curator in residence Lucia H. Chung brings the cream of Taiwan's experimental electronic scene to London

London’s Somerset House Studios has announced an event showcasing experimental electronic music from Taiwan. The event, taking place in the crypt below Somerset House’s courtyard next Saturday the 29 September, has been curated by Lucia H. Chung and will feature live performances from prominent Taiwanese artists Wang Fujui, Lu Yi, Meuko! Meuko!, TZU NI and LTY. The night promises a heady mix of “analog and electronic noise” plus “unique sonic experimentation”.

Over the past three months, London-based sound artist Chung, who performs under the name En Creux, has been on a curatorial residency with Music Hackspace as part of their Somerset House Studios residency. “I have been doing the curatorial residency at Music Hackspace since July,” Chung told The Quietus, “and I have been bringing Taiwanese artists over to do 3-week residencies.” The evening on the 29 September represents the culmination and final event of Chung’s residency. Artists performing range from abstract audiovisual collages with oversampled test tones to intricate beats and whispered lyrics. The event is presented in collaboration with Lacking Sound Festival, one of the most prestigious events for experimental sound artists in Taiwan.
