JOYFULTALK pull together found footage for new video

JOYFULTALK, the duo of Jay Crocker and multi-instrumentalist Shawn Dicey, will this week release their new album Plurality Trip, and ahead of that, they have unveiled a new video for album track ‘Kill Scene’.

Comprised of low-resolution found footage plumbed from the depth of open source internet archives, the video for the track has a strong theme of law enforcement running through it.

"When brainstorming visual ideas for ‘Kill Scene’ I was interested in the idea of early 80s cop shows, pastels and sun," says Crocker. "The sound of the track definitely holds a nostalgia for that time. Although I wanted it to have a police element, I didn’t want the video to portray law enforcement as either heroes or anti-heroes. I wanted it to be nostalgic and artful while still demonstrating social commentary in regards to guns and violence in North American society."

JOYFULTALK’s music initially came about from the experimentations of Crocker who would build his own instruments and modify synths upon relocation to Nova Scotia in 2011. The debut album from the project, MUUIXX, arrived in 2015.

Plurality Trip is the duo’s second album and will be released this Friday (August 24) via Constellation. The album can be pre-ordered here.
