Lost Thelonious Monk Album To Be Released

A lost Thelonious Monk recording dating back to 1963 will receive a first-time release this September

A recording of a Thelonious Monk quartet concert dating back to 1963 has been uncovered and will be released for the first time this September.

The original tapes featuring the recording were, according to Gearbox Records who will oversee the release, recovered from a skip. Entitled Mønk, the album has been remastered from those tapes.

The concert took place in Copenhagen and features Monk on piano, backed by his band of Charlie Rouse on saxophone, John Orr on double bass and Frankie Dunlop on drums.

The album will be release in a limited edition clear vinyl LP edition as well as on standard black vinyl. You can pre-order it here ahead of its September release.
