Colin Stetson Reveals New Album, ‘The love it took to leave you’

It's the Canadian-American saxophonist's first solo full-length release since 2017

Colin Stetson is set to release a new album this September, titled The love it took to leave you.

Spanning 11 tracks, it marks the Canadian-American saxophonist’s first solo full-length release since 2017, and was recorded over the course of a week in early 2023 at metalworks facility-turned-art complex The Darling Foundry in Montréal. “We were using the same live setup as I normally would to amplify – a full PA in the building’s spaces – so we were really able to move the kind of air that I can move, really saturating the room, hitting the walls hard,” Stetson said in a statement. “And then we further fleshed it out.”

The album’s announcement is accompanied by the sharing of the title track, which you can watch a video for below. Originally written some years ago but always intended as the cornerstone of an album, it centres around alto saxophone and has been a fixture of a number of Stetson’s live sets in recent years.

Invada / Envision will release The love it took to leave you on September 13, 2024.
