WATCH: Bluedot Festival Unveils Telescope Installation

Get an insight into the art installation that will light up the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank Observatory as part of this year's Bluedot festival, which will also host The Flaming Lips, Slowdive and more

Bluedot festival returns to Jodrell Bank Observatory this July, with a music line-up that includes The Chemical Brothers, The Flaming Lips, Future Islands, Slowdive and Helena Hauff amongst plenty others.

Also part of the festival’s programme is an art installation, which will make full use of the Bluedot site as visual artist Marcus Lyall transforms the Lovell Telescope as part of his new work, MegaStructure. You can get an insight of what that will look like via the video above which features Lyall, amongst others, talking about their plans for the installation.

Lyall’s new work draws inspiration from a predicted alien architecture that surrounds Tabby’s Star, which is a mysterious source of unusual light fluctuations 1470 light years away from earth. MegaStructure will light up the undercarriage of the Lovell Telescope at Bluedot festival through a sequence of colour and light projections. Lyall’s previous visual work includes working with festival headliners The Chemical Brothers.

Bluedot takes place at Jodrell Bank Observatory from July 19-22. You can find the full line-up, more information and get tickets here.
