Details Of Limited Can Biography Revealed

The limited edition version of an upcoming Can biography will feature a replica of a rare studio notebook

Details of a limited edition version of Can’s upcoming biography, All Gates Open: The Story Of Can, have been announced with the news that the book will come accompanied with a replica of a rare studio notebook.

The book will be made available in both standard and limited editions, with only 200 copies of the latter being produced at a retail price of £275. The 78-page replica of notebook which has been shared by the group features sketches of drum kit set-ups by the late Jaki Liebezeit as well as a number of scribbles by the group.

The limited edition version of the book will be published by Faber & Faber on May 3, with the standard edition set to follow in the same month. The biography has been put together by the band’s founder, Irmin Schmidt, and Rob Young, a music writer and former editor of The Wire.

All Gates Open: The Story Of Can is split into two parts. The first part sees Young tell the band’s story in detail via interviews with the members and associates. The second part, Can Kiosk, was put together by Schmidt and is described by the publisher’s press release as a "collage" presenting a more personal history of the band.
