Faber & Faber will publish All Gates Open: The Story Of Can on May 5, by the writer Rob Young and the Can founding member Irmin Schmidt.
The publication is divided into two books. The first, All Gates Open, is written by Young and provides a full biography of the group, drawn from interviews with all their founding members, as well as others who surrounded them.
The second section Can Kiosk has been assembled by Schmidt as a ‘collage’, featuring an oral history of the band and drawing on interviews Schmidt conducted with musicians, artists and filmmakers Can inspired. They include Bobby Gillespie, Geoff Barrow, Mark E. Smith, Wim Wenders and John Malkovich.
The book is available to pre-order in hardback now from Faber & Faber’s website. A special limited edition version will be available from April 5.
