Mica Levi has released her soundtrack for the anime Delete Beach via Demdike Stare’s label DDS.
Out today, the soundtrack features both an English and Japanese version of the title track, as well as an instrumental alongside two interludes. You can hear ‘Interlude 2’ above.
The soundtrack was produced for a film directed by artist and Turner Prize nominee Phil Collins and illustrated by designer Marisuke Eguchi which centres around a world where carbon-based energy is outlawed.
"The film supposes a paradoxical scenario, one where fossil fuels – the ostensible accelerator of humanity’s progress and decline – become energy for the toil against state oppression and enforced inequality," says a press release announcing the soundtrack’s release. "In doing so, it resonates with anime’s strong tradition of exploring eco-feminist themes and power dynamics, both socio-political and technological."
The soundtrack is available as of today (November 10) both digitally and across a pair of 10" records. It’s Levi’s first soundtrack for an animated film following on from her acclaimed work on the films Under The Skin and Jackie. You can purchase the soundtrack here.
